Grand design
The design of the house
The design of the house is really creative. The persons that were going to live in the house designed it so that it would be on a hill. It would look like it almost wasn't there. The process started with volunteers that wanted experience. They dug out pieces of the hill and filled sandbags with that dirt. The sandbags were put against the wall to prevent the hill from collapsing. The entire house was build with whatever was cheap and available in the nature.
The reaction to the environment
They people who designed and build the house used a lot of natural resources that were available due to nature. An example of this are the sandbags. They filled the bags with the dirt they dug out themselves. The house is the most environmentally friendly that I have ever seen.
The ecological aspect
The only thing that wasn't ecologically were the 'piepschuim' fillings. They only used this because otherwise it would be thrown away. The rest of the house was totally ecological. They used dirt, wood, limestone, an entire roof made of grass and a few other natural resources. The wood was used to be the fundament of the house and it was found in a forest nearby.
The design process
As I said before, there were volunteers that helped. They helped because they wanted to see how it works to make an environmental friendly house. They did it for free but they did need food and drinks to keep working.
There were a few bumps during the process of building the house. One of them being the weather. They could only work when it was dry and when it wasn't too cold. The other bump were the volunteers. They mostly worked for 6 months and after that they would go home or somewhere else. The third bump were the windows. They didn't really know how the windows looked so they kind of had to guess and build the house around the windows. All these bumps slowed down the process a lot but they still managed to get the house done within the time they had.
The sustainability
The house had to be self-sustainable for 75% to be able for the people to keep their place and to live there. One of the ways that they achieved this goal was to build a green house that was attached to the house. This way the heat from the sun and the outside could be contained in the house.
My opinion
I think that everyone would respect these people that tried to live there. They kept going even when things weren't that easy. They achieved a lot with very little money. There is no way that I could achieve something like this.

Approximately one year after the house was build, a fire came in their house and burned the entire house down. Because the house was entirely made out of wood and other natural resources, the fire couldn't be stopped easily. This is very sad because lots of people used all their energy to build this house and now it's burned down.
