Final project: Mediawijsheid
This is my final project for Art and Design. The theme for this project is 'Mediawijsheid'. 'Mediawijsheid' stands for everything that's on your phone, on the internet and on social media. For my project I made a person that is walking. In her footsteps you see photo's that she posted on the internet. If you post photo's on the internet, they will stay there forever. You also see all the social media apps that she uses. There are also a lot of hate comment's. With this comment's and with all the photo's I want to say that you need to be careful with what you post and say on the internet. Everything will stay in your digital footstep.
research
When we started this project we had to make a mind map in our blackbook and a photo collage on google drawings.
The photo collage I made on google drawings is the one you see on the left. All the photos you see are photo's that have something to do with 'Mediawijsheid'.
I also made a mind map in my Blackbook but I couldn't make the pictures because my blackbook is at school and I am making this website at home.
After we did a few research things, we had to come up with our idea for this project. I had two ideas. My first idea was about a person being trapped in a phone and my second idea was someone walking and you would see social media things in her footsteps. I chose the second idea because I thought it wasn't a very basic idea and I could be more creative.
I didn't make any sketches for this project, I had a good idea of it in my head.
process
I started this project with making the base. I painted a big piece of a cardboard with green and grey. I wanted it to look like a path was going through a grass field.
After I made the underground, I started with making the clay girl. I made a few pictures of the process of the girl but I think I accidentally deletet the pictures.
I started with making a skeleton with a metal wire. After I finished with the wire, I put little pieces of clay around it until it was a little person.
In the oven/drying area, cracks came into the little body so it doesn't look really neat but before it went in the oven it looked really cool.
When the clay person came out of the oven I started with making the footprints. I cut out three footprints in a piece of cardboard. I painted the footprints grey and I started with putting on all the photo's I had gathered. There were photo's of a girl that she posted on instagram, there were hate comments and there were logo's of different social media platforms.
I thought it would be fun to make a 3D phone to put in the 'grass', the whole project is about what happens in a phone and I like making things on the website Tinkercad. Because I was a bit stressed cause I had to do lot's of other things, I used a downloaded phone. As you can see it didn't turn out to be a very cool phone.
After this failure I made my own phone but all the 3D printers were broken so I couldn't use it.
My last step was painting the little clay girl and making her stand. I didn't had any difficulties with that.
Final result
I am really happy with how my project turned out to be because it really looks the same in my head as on this pictures
Opinion:
I didn't have any difficulties in this whole project except for the 3D printer part. I really like my idea and it worked well.
